Life Before Thomas Jefferson High School
I grew up in Miami, Florida and graduated from Palmetto High School. I went to UNF then to Tallahassee Community College for my AA. Then I transferred to Florida State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a Master’s degree with a focus in Autism and Emotional Disturbances.
In college I worked for a grant program working at home with parents with kids with disabilities. I also worked in an early intervention program for kids with autism as well as a high school for students who were at risk not to graduate. I worked on campus at the Leach Center, the on campus gym for 3 years.
After 9 years working with students with Severe Autism I made a change and am now the AVID Site Team Coordinator teaching Junior, Senior AVID as well as a ACE Connect teacher.
In AVID the students are working on College and post secondary skills based on their own determination.
I am also the ACE Connect teacher and run the Work Based Learning program. These programs are about Work Experience and Alternative Career Education.
